2023 Agricola DWxHV Shiraz Barossa Valley – The Powell family have been making award winning wines in the Barossa for decades. Now son Callum has released his on Barossa label. These wines are totally different to your usual big, bold reds of the Barrosa – lower alcohol, lo-fi, pure and elegant.
This release sees 4 wines in the range – Ebenezer, Flaxman Valley, K’ Sands and DWxHV. 2023 was a significantly cool, prolonged harvest. Many of their sites were picked two weeks later than usual. This long and cool season resulted in considerable structural backbones of these wines, while still maintaining vibrant perfumes and flavour profiles.
Fruit for this wine is sourced from Hoffmann Dallwitz Old, Hoffmann Dallwitz 1996 and Hutton Vale 1961 vines. 2407 bottles produced.
Another moderate alcohol level of 14.1%. This is the latest wine to be released by Callum. The wine is definitely the fullest out of the 4 with great freshness, density and power. Expect loadsof ripe dark fruits with exotic spice and herbs. A firm tannin structure keeps the rich fruit in line. Have a glass now and another in 10 years.
