2021 Lake’s Folly Hill Block Shiraz Hunter Valley – Established in 1963 by Doctor Max Lake, Lake’s Folly was the first new vineyard in the Hunter Valley last century. In early 2000, Lake’s Folly was purchased by Peter and Lee Fogarty and family who, along with Hunter-born and bred winemaker, Rodney Kempe, have continued to maintain the integrity and direction of this significant vineyard.
The ‘Hill’ at Lake’s Folly is, without question, one of the finest viticultural sites in the Hunter Valley. Heavy, red soil overlays a distinctive limestone layer that produces wine of exceptional depth and character.
Not made every vintage and only in truly outstanding years. First vintage produced in 2017. Only 240 dozen made.
Intense perfumed nose of dark berry fruits – mostly blackberry, black cherry and plum. Subtle char from perfect oak. Plush, generous black berry fruits flow onto the palate. A fresh, vibrant fruit-driven wine with style and balance and great weight of fruit coupled with perfectly-managed French oak. Seamless varietal purity at its best; an ultra-stylish wine – class act!
Can drink now, but will continue to improve for 10+ years as a minimum.
