2023 Coriole Sangiovese McLaren Vale – Shiraz is the great tradition of McLaren Vale going back over 150 years, and is the major variety planted at Coriole. Alongside shiraz, cabernet, grenache and chenin blanc, Coriole produces alternative varieties such as piquepuol, nero d’avola, montepulciano and negroamaro. Coriole has been a pioneer of Italian varieties since 1985, with the oldest sangiovese and fiano vineyards in Australia.

So well suited to the McLaren Vale region, and over 40 years of experimenting with sites, clones and rootstocks has led to this sangiovese being an Australian benchmark.

From first taste you can see why this Sangiovese is so highly regarded in the Aus wine scene. Plenty of flavour and character to be had in a medium bodied wine. Think cherries, red fruits, herbs, spice and roast meats. The tannins are fine, the acidity is balanced and crisp, the finish is long and enjoyable.

This wine would pair beautifully with a mixed mushroom risotto or for a late afternoon tipple, team with cured meats and pickled vegetables.
