2023 Mazi Grenache Rose McLaren Vale – Lifelong friends Toby Porter and Alex Katsaros always talked about making wine together. Alex has spent over a decade working with alternative varieties in Australia and abroad, Toby has been a winemaker at internationally acclaimed d’Arenberg for over 15 years. In 2016 the dream came to fruition, with the release of the first Rosé under the Mazi label.
Mazi Rosé is styled on the famous, dry rosé wines of Europe. The fruit was handpicked and exhibited even, dark blue colouring and natural red berry flavour synonymous with Grenache. The fruit was crushed and immediately pressed to extract the optimum level of flavour and tannin to best suit the style.
A lovely lifted nose of violets, and a mix of Asian spices which carry through to a strawberry, musk and tangerine citrus filled palate. Acid retention and a fine line of tannin finish the wine off to make it a drink to be served with a range of dishes, both savoury and sweet.
